History

With the advent of the industrial revolution, the production of iron and steel on a large scale became an urgent necessity, and steel industries were born large, industrial development spread very quickly coming to America. Requirements inherent in the development of our country demanded an appropriate response to the demand of the construction industry, thus emerged ANDEC, Acerías Nacionales del Ecuador, founded in 1964, giving the country the ingredient that has enabled a significant boost the development of the National Steel Industry. Initially the plant had 150 workers who had to train in the use of a rolling mill, the same who worked until age 80.

This train produced for 1970, some 11,250 tons. This initial production reached to cover 20% of the total demand at the country level. By the mid 80s, the company had diversified its production, thanks to the acquisition of a rolling mill rolls allowing produce wire under 10mm. At the same time, July 1984, the Directorate of Military Industries (DINE) acquires the majority of the shareholding with the vision to modernize the plant, optimize resources, increase production and increase its market share.

However, the biggest challenge was yet to come. "The process of ISO 9000 certification" in 1997 was a landmark decision, for a time when very few Ecuadorian industries considered it necessary. The implementation of technology production increased further with the addition of new procedures in the Quality Management made ‚Äč‚ÄčANDEC achieved ISO 9002 certification on February 22, 2001. To continue with this process, the July 31, 2003 the company achieved the ISO 9001:2000 certification and has now completed its certification process SGI Integrated Management System, incorporating its quality system, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
